Risk and Resilience in Supply Chains
SafeRock’s CEO Shah Karim and Crown Holdings’ Daniel A. Abramowicz recently published a paper entitled “Risk and Resilience in Supply Chains” in the Research-Technology Management paper Volume 64, 2021. The content is adapted from their presentation at the IRI Virtual 2021 Annual Conference and offers insights into how companies can take steps to enhance their supply chains and mitigate risks.
The full paper can be downloaded here.
Industry and government responses to supply chain disruptions during the COVID-19 pandemic demonstrate the importance of a coordinated and forward-thinking approach to respond at scale in any large-scale emergency. As IRI member companies make up a significant portion of the world’s industrial, chemical, and manufacturing capacity, they represent an important resource for at-scale response to a potential public health emergency or other future crises. This paper focuses on manufacturing operations, their impact on the supply chain, and how R&D can play a critical role in helping companies to prepare for and respond more effectively to supply chain disruptions in future crises.
We present two case studies. The first case study focuses on Crown Holdings’ packaging for food and beverages and shows how its approach to supply chain increases its resilience during unexpected events. The second examines the global vaccine response (GVR) to COVID-19, highlighting key challenges and opportunities arising from inadequate supply chains.
